| Membership |
Two types of membership are available:-
Individual membership is open
to all members of IEAust and AustIMM and to others who are suitably qualified
and have an active interest in geomechanics. Special provision is made
for full time tertiary students and members who have retired from an active
professional career.
In addition, undergraduate students receive
free membership. In this case, the journal, Australian Geomechanics,
is not posted, but is available to students attending their local AGS Chapter
meetings. Undergraduate membership does not include membership of the
international societies.
The basic AGS membership fee provides membership of one
international society of a member's choice. For a small additional subscription,
members may join two or all three societies.
Corporate membership is available
to corporate bodies, including government departments and statutory authorities,
whose activities are clearly related to geomechanics. Corporate members may
nominate two members of their staff to receive full membership rights, including
membership of all three international societies.
Membership runs for a financial year from 1 July to 30 June. New subscriptions
received after 1st January will have a Pro-rata rate of 50% applied.
The Society provides its members with four issues of
the journal, Australian Geomechanics, each year and offers membership
of the international societies for soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering
(ISSMGE), rock mechanics (ISRM) and engineering geology and the environment
(IAEG) as required.
The Society is run by its members for its members and
enthusiastic involvement is encouraged.
